FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
BOTULINUM A. TOXIN
-
A: No, you will see results within 3-7 days, and optimum results can be seen after 2 weeks.
-
Botox is injected directly into the targeted muscle using a micro-fine needle. It works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals required for your facial muscles to contract. Once injected, the product takes 3-7 days to relax the muscles and decrease the movement that creates lines and wrinkles.
-
At Burrows Lane Aesthetics Clinic we use Botox to address lines and wrinkles on a number of different facial areas, including the forehead, frown lines, around the eyes (crow’s feet) and lip lines. Botox can also be injected to soften dimpling of the chin. Additionally, we also treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), by injecting Botox into the armpits.
-
Botox treatments are quick with minimal discomfort. The treatment requires no numbing or pain relief, and very minimal recovery time. The procedure is not considered painful, just slightly uncomfortable during injection.
-
The results of Botox typically last 3 months from the initial treatment, however this can differ from person to person. Over time, the body metabolises the product, leading to the slow return of muscle movement in the treated area. Many patients chose to maintain their results for longer by undergoing regular treatments every 3-4 months to ensure the product does not completely ‘wear off’.
-
Yes, Botox is an FDA approved treatment for reversing lines and wrinkles. However, patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neurological diseases should not receive Botox treatments.
-
Some patients wonder if they’re ‘too young’ or ‘too old’ for Botox. There is no right or wrong age to start using Botox, however we operate a strict over 18 policy on all treatments. All patients will undergo a full consultation prior to treatment to determine if this is the right product to achieve the desired results. Many clients like to use Botox in their twenties and thirties, when they first start to notice lines and wrinkles, as a preventative measure, however Botox can be an effective treatment with fantastic, visible results no matter what age.
DERMAL FILLERS
-
Dermal Fillers are soft, injectable, gel like substances, containing hyaluronic acid, a sugar like molecule that occurs naturally under the skin.
-
Dermal Fillers add volume to soft tissue and fill fine lines and wrinkles. Fillers restore lost volume to your face and plump areas, so that deep-set lines are smoothed. Why is this needed? As we get older our bodies stop producing collagen and elastin, both of which contribute to the youthful look. You can have dermal fillers in different parts of your face: around the eye, cheeks, mouth and jawline, as well as lip fillers administered directly into the lip tissue.
-
Yes, you will see instant results following your treatment during your appointment. You will however see optimum results 1-2 weeks following your treatment, after the product settles.
-
The longevity of Dermal Fillers depends on the type of Filler used. Typically they last 6-12 months, however studies have shown some Dermal Fillers can last up to 2 years. The thicker the hyaluronic acid gel, the more volume you can expect to see at the injection site. For example, Dermal Fillers for lip augmentation have thinner gels to provide best results possible, while Dermal Fillers for cheek augmentation are naturally thicker and designed to last longer.
-
The Dermal Fillers we use at Burrows Lane Aesthetics Clinic contain an anaesthetic called Lidocaine to help with pain relief, however prior to treatment, a topical numbing cream is used to minimise discomfort and help the procedure feel as pain-free as possible.
GENERAL
-
A week before the treatment we will ask you to stop consuming alcohol or taking blood-thinning medications to minimise bruising following treatment.
-
Common side effects following an injectable treatment may include bruising, swelling, redness and/or tenderness. All of these will resolve without intervention within a few days following treatment. All common and uncommon side effects will be discussed prior to treatment during your consultation.
-
We offer free follow-up appointments for all treatments. Typically the follow-up appointments take place 2 weeks after your treatment has taken place and they are arranged during your initial appointment. Your follow-up appointment allows time to ensure you’re happy with your results and the treatment has worked as you expected. If necessary, additional products (Dermal Filler or Botulinum Toxin) can be added for free as a ‘top-up’.
